Yes! There are complementary animal care professionals, including massage specialists, around the world.
I was certified as a Small Animal Massage Professional through the North West School of Animal Massage in Washington State in 2014. I am a member of the BC Association of Animal Massage and Bodywork Professionals and the International Association of Animal Massage & Bodywork.
My scope of practice is dogs, primarily senior dogs and shelter dogs, with the occasional friendly cat or rabbit.
Just as you choose a professional massage for yourself to feel better or improve your mobility or function, you can choose massage for your dog.
Animal massage is designed to reduce muscle tension and fatigue. Massage is not designed to diagnose or treat any illness or injury.
A certified animal massage professional will work together with your vet, on their delegated instructions, to customize a massage plan for your animal's specific needs.
Animal massage is NOT a substitute for veterinary care.
All dogs, especially those who are older and have mobility issues.
Massage not only reduces muscle tension and fatigue, it increases circulation of blood and lymph, which revitalizes the body’s cells.
Think of how good you feel after a good massage with a trained professional – your dog can feel the same. Massage can be helpful both to calm and to energize your dog.
Many guardians of senior dogs rely on regular massage to increase or maintain mobility and quality of life as their dogs age.
Call to discuss how massage can help your dog live its best life.
